When were you hired?
As in, what point in the (previous) school year?

I was hired in May and began to work right then as a bilingual class had opened and needed a teacher. I am currently on a leave of absence.

I was hired in July.
Budgets just came in today, so if you're looking for a job, you can probably expect more calls to come in.

I'm just wondering, that's all.
Under my specialty, I don't apply to particular schools or even a particular district--
I just haven't been hired yet so I was wondering...

schools can't hire at all without a budget unless it's a midyear replacement so it makes sense that you haven't been hired yet.
good luck!

I do know that there are openings in what I'm looking for and have made my contacts already.

then hopefully it will be easy for you
my school also has openings in 5 different subject areas but obviously couldn't hire yet without the official budget.
also, there were supposed to be layoffs of all first through third year teachers as well as no new hires, but the mayor officially rescinded this *today* at around 2pm, which will also speed up getting a job.

I applied in beginning of the summer and actually got a job the last week in August - a few days before school started.

I got my job (teaching) the end of the July, a few years ago... Then again, I only started applying in June. My school has ZERO openings though. If you're a therapist the hiring is done differently than teachers.

This whole thing is getting frustrating! I know that there are openings in my field--and will probably hear something closer to when the school year starts, but I have to arrange my childcare for next year, now!!
