Were going on a 4 day trip and im having a mental block as to what to pack for lunch and supper.
There will be no kosher food around anywhere.
we'll have a fridge each night when we stop in a motel some place along the way.
otherwise we have a cooler and icepacks.

breakfast will be cereal and milk and yogurt, easy.

lunch will be sandwiches- pb, jelly, cheese, cream cheese, salami, tuna,... but I need more ideas of what I can bring that will stay fresh for a sandwich and isnt messy.

dinner one night will be prepared beforehand schnitzels and spanish rice (cold).
im clueless for the next few nights. one night we are invited out in a nearby Jewish community, so I dont have to worry about that.

im thinking of buying an electric burner and bringing along a pot to make macaroni and cheese or something. Confused

anybody have any ideas for me, please???

Don't know where you live but in NY there are many take out places like chap a nosh or meal mart that will prepare frozen or vacuum packed meals for you. The frozen ones are triple wraped so that you can use the microwave in your motel to heat them up.

You can bring boxes of couscous in different flavors. You just need to add hot water (it can even be from a faucet - does not need to be boiling) so it is perfect for travelling.

There are also oatmeal packets which you can make the same way for breakfast.

Vegetables to make salad you can buy if you want.

Frozen meat/hotdogs and make bbq.

thank you for your replies.

I'd rather not bring along any appliances unless I absolutely have to.
so I need to figure out what would make a good filling dinner and can also be eaten cold.

im definitely bringing a can opener, and an electric kettle for coffee in the morning. but I hate shlepping everything including the kitchen sink, so I need to cut down on the stuff I want to bring.

Wow, you're good. I was just going to say have more sandwiches for dinner. It could be different types for variety. If lunch is PB & J, make dinner cold cuts, etc.

baked chicken is also good cold with cold potato salad, coleslaw, macaroni salad.

Cold cut sandwhiches

bring a crock pot , fill with potatoes , veggies and cut up meat or hot dogs, add water, spices, plug it in in the morning, at night you have supper.

too bad we dont eat that type of food. Confused

shnitzels will be for one supper, id rather not bring a burner and pot for potatoes, and corn im bringing.

instant soups cant really be supper, pitas dont stay fresh for a few days, but im considering chumus.

Bagels & lox

that can be a lunch, but its a bit messy.

if it was just a day or two, I would do that. but its 4 days.

I wish!
but we're sleeping at a different motel each night, and will be on the road most of the day.

lunch will be in the car each day, and dinner needs to be something I can fix up quick as soon as we get into the hotel.

thank you for the replies.
ive been trying to brainstorm for a while now, and just cant come up with anything as you can see.
maybe we'll just have to bring a burner and a pot, although I wish I didnt have to.

an un-opened package of pita should stay fresh for at least 4 days...how long do you think it sits on the shelf at the store? prob. a week.
if you can keep it cool (in the cooler) it'll be even better

do you have a small gas grill? they really take up very little space. we took one away with us for 3 days and just made bbq every night. you can also propbably buy one for $20.

also, osem makes bagged couscous and rice that you can add water from the elctric kettle to.

can you make meatballs in sauce at home and bring them? I personally love cold meatball subs, or on hamburger buns. (kind of like a sloppy joe.) they should stay good for a couple of days.

They sell disposable grills for $5. They're basically foil pans with wracks and some charcoal thrown in. I think they come with everything.

the pita they sell in my area we buy the day it comes, and if we dont eat it or freeze it, its inedible the next day.

we do have an electric grill, maybe ill just give in and bring it.
or if I bring a burner and pot, I can just boil up hot dogs, not as good but at least its something.

thanx, ill look for that.

ill be cutting up tons of vegetables before the trip and bringing fruit.
were buying bagels and unsliced loaves of bread so it will stay fresh longer.
