my ds will be 3 in march and shows absolutely no interest in toilet training. ive been talking it up, telling him that he'll get treats/prizes for going on the toilet, wearing underwear, etc but every time I ask him if he wants to wear underwear or sit on the toilet, he says no. do I push him and just put on underwear and see what happens or do I wait for him to decide that he is ready, which may be never (or not for a long time at least)? my older ds was kind of pushed into it for school and we did not have the best experience but I dont know if that could be attributed to pushing him into it. (he wouldnt go #2 in the toilet for years.)
btw, this ds is verbal, aware and knows when he is going in his diaper so in that sense he is for sure ready. just not interested. any advice or ideas?

my son was almost 3 when I toilet trained him. prizes & bribes didnt seem to work .... I went to the store w/ him and let him choose the underwear (of course he chose elmo) I told him its 4 big kids that make in a potty. he was so excited and wanted to wear it already.... and the rest is history

If you feel that your son has the physical and verbal skills necessary to be potty trained, you could try what we did with one of our kids. We waited until that package of diapers that we were currently using was finished and then we told him, "okay, now the diapers are all finished. Now you are a big boy and from today you are going to go in the potty. Here are some cool underpants and when you feel like you have to go I will help you get onto the potty and then you'll get a prize if you can make in the potty."

Good luck with your son's potty training.
