In the 50's, there was a big problem with Jewish shipping lines desecrating the Shabbos. Even if you set out earlier in the week, came Shabbos and the Jewish sailors would do things that entailed chilul Shabbos.
Nowadays, people don't travel by ship much anymore but cargo is still sent by ship, containers/lifts. And there are numerous problems regarding Shabbos observance in the shipping field. For example, the port of Chaifa desecrates the Shabbos while the port of Ashdod does not. Many people, who don’t know this, prefer to use the port of Chaifa. And cargo shipped by plane, even by well-known airlines like El-Al and C.A.L. is shipped on Shabbos too .

What about Fed-ex, international Express mail etc.? Can you send something Erev shabbos, if you know that it will not be delivered before Sunday afternoon?

Are they Jewish-owned companies?
What about putting mail in the mailbox when you know there's a pickup on Saturday?

To be more clear, this package is being sent to Israel and will be delivered Sunday afternoon. Is there reason to suspect that Israeli postal service workers who are very likely Jewish will be handling it on Shabbos, even if delivery is the next day?

wow motek I didn't know half that stuff. I thought elal doesn't work on shabbos. and as for chaifa why would anyone go through chaifa compared to ashdod? ashdod always gives less problems for overseas lifts and containers.

I know people who won't travel with EL-AL for this reason. They prepare the passenger planes on Shabbos when it leaves Motzai Shabbos/Sunday -refueling, etc.

Does that include private postal companies like UPS, Fed-Ex etc.?
and is there a possibility that these companies ship with El-Al (on Shabbos)?

Did I include myself in the people I know?
Continental Airlines also flies direct, as far as I know. There might be others too...
