have a wedding, a fancy one. were not that acquainted with them.. well not really at all
I know the guy from a while back and well I am not missing this wedding for anything.
now question, as a guest - would showing up in a ballgown skirt be too much?
or do I haveto go with short?
opinions? advice?

It may be my culture, but to me unless you are the bride, you don't wear a gown.

What is everybody else wearing? Is it a white tie affair?
If you say you know this guy from a while back and you are not that acquainted with them and the invitation does not specify a dress code, you can wear a long ballgown skirt, but you might want to avoid the puffed-out-to-there type of ballgown skirt. In general, you can definitely wear long to a fancy wedding.

This is not too fancy for an evening wedding, as long as it really is a "fancy" wedding, like you said it will be.
