I would like to get my MIL candlesticks (she is not frum, but I think if she had nice candlesticks she would be more likely to bentch licht). It should be something nice, but not too expensive (let's say under $100) and preferably something that doesn't tarnsih so she shouldn't need to worry about polising them. Any ideas? TIA

I have a very pretty pair of glass/crystal candlesticks that are pretty much maintenance free that I use for guests when I need extra licht. perhaps look for something like that. I got it in one of these closeout stores but you can easily get a nice pair anywhere, glasscrystal costs less than silver

I second the glass/crystal idea, preferably in a simple smooth design without a lot of facets. That makes them easy to clean, even in a dishwasher, no polishing necessary, and they'll go with any decor. Ceramic is also good but it's less elegant, unless you go for something like Lenox china.

Another vote for glass crystal. There are some really pretty sets out there.

Can you give me some links to the kinds of things I can buy that are elegant yet not too expensive?

I think crystal ones are a wonderful idea. We have a set we got from a non-Jewish co-worker and enjoy them every Motzei Shabbos.

crystal it is ... not cheap glass ... you can find these at marshall's, century 21 for $20 - gorgeous ... then go get the silver plated or some such inserts and a box of candles with a big bow ... or even a little lighter and a small prayer card (maybe a white lace kerchief) ... the set will make it more meaningful and bet you could do it all for less than $40
