what kind of gift for nursery teachers?

It's almost chanuka. and I feel like I want to give my ds's teachers gifts because I think they are amazing! I don't want to spend a lot of money though. Any good ideas? he has a teacher and an assistant (I love both of them) but he also has another teacher that comes in twice a week for a few hours. I don't really know her, but do I have to get her a gift and if I do, does it has to be as nice as the other teachers?

As a teacher myself, gift cards are the most appreciated. Even if it's for just a manicure.

my son's school (and my elementary school as well) collects money from each parent for the teachers. it was all totaled up and each teacher got a check.

I went along with it and sent in the money because I'm not sure if they give the teachers a list of who participated and I didnt want to be left out, but at the same time, if they dont name who gave, it doesnt show that I particularly showed my hakaras hatov...so I'm not really sure which is better.

Thanks for the idea of manicures. I have 4 married teachers to give & they are all the type to get manicures. Cheaper than chocolates which is what I usually give!

I don't know about the manicure thing. maybe good for the assistant, but I don't know how well that would go over with the teachers. not that I ever noticed their nails, I just don't think they are the type of ppl who are into that nail scene. any other good ideas?

I am a teacher and what I appreciate mora than anything else is a nice, PERSONAL note- telling me how much I affected the student, etc..

I have 1 kindergarten teacher plus 2 assistants, plus the "after school hours" morah & her assistant (that's 1 1/2 hrs a day)...plus the therapist (2x a week), a Rebbe, a bus monitor and bus driver.... Any ideas?? Inexpensive without looking cheap??

Gift certificate to a nice restaurant? That way she can have a night out with her husband (if married; not clear from your post).

My daughter's school also does pooled chanukah gelt.
I always add a personal gift - I buy gift cards from Banana Republic - they can use them at any of the gap family stores: Gap, Banana, Old Navy, Piperlime & Athleta - this way there is something for everyone. Trendy/Classy/Kids/Shoes, etc.

I was told that you can buy a 'credit card/gift card' from TD Bank. So you can decide what amount you wish to give and they also wrap it in a cute little box. Like that, it's packaged nicely and your teacher/assistant/recipient can use the card as they wish!

We do gift certificates to book stores for teachers.

You could also do a local coffee shop.

As a teacher, I always appreciate gift cards, even in small amounts. Some parents have added a note or commented that "this is for you, don't go spend it on the kids or house..." how thoughtful.
As a parent, I like to give gift cards to the mall. It appeals to everyone. I also bake cookies or make chocolate covered pretzels with my kids, we put them in a nice tin, add a thank you note and the gift card and have a beautiful token of appreciation.

is a $10 gift certificate in a local gift shop enough? the store has frames,clocks,miniatures for a curio for $10 and under

Something from the child. A homemade card that they draw a picture on with a personal note (you write, either from the child or from you) and some homemade baking you do together, wrapped up in some cellophane. Cheap, personal, and the child learns what it is to say thanks. Works for men, women, old, young, rich, poor....

whatever you give I think the child should have some part in it - make a nice card and write something.

A gift card is great and appreciated. Not everyone drinks coffee though. I often give a giftcard to a pharmacy chain that has a big make up range.
