my friend rips off the mailing labels from her magazines and then spends hours running them thru a shredder !

she does not want her addy to possibly being blown into someones yard
is she paranoid or just being safe ?

It's funny but my husband is the same exact way, at first I thought it was ridiculous, but then with the whole identity theft I guess it's a prevention step everyone should take especially living in a big city, you never know who goes through your trash.
So now I think it's relatively normal.

If you ask me -- she's paranoid!! Identity theft generally won't happen just from an address. If there was a social security number or any other identifying detail, I would hear it. Mailing addresses don't even include phone numbers for the most part.

I disagree. Address is a bid deal, if you run a reverse search on the white pages for the address you get a name and a phone number, and then through certain websites and money you could buy any kind of information on the internet.
It took me too long to type this up, I got distracted and somebody else had already said the same thing.
But I wanted to add that not only phone books you could get a name from an address, but also from a county appraiser's website.
