Does anyone have experience with buying blinds - would like to find a style that keeps the light out.
Thanks

do you mean blinds and not shades? get aluminum blinds--plastic ones admit a lot of light. aluminum ones are opaque and make the room completely dark.

if you mean roller shades, get thick ones called "room-darkening" shades. thinner ones will also admit light.

forget the roll-up bamboo "shades" --not only do they admit light, but, when it is dark outside and light inside, you can see right into the room from the outside!

If you go to a store like Home Depot, they have different types of blinds that allow different amounts of light. We have 3 inch faux wood, which COMPLETELY blocks the light, and looks really nice.

Like chen said, aluminum blocks a lot of light. Go to any store that sells blinds or shades, and you'll have many different options.

I got from bed bathand beyond room darkening curtains that work great but don't look very good. but are great for my kid- I put a nice valance over the top of the window to put the eye there away from the ugly shade. but it works for the sleeping!

Do you sew or have a friend who does? You can buy Warm Window insulating material by the yard and make your own. I've done this for my daughter's room. I have changed the covering (just cotton fabric) twice to match her decor. It is the best and least expensive way to keep light out - that was my first motivation too, but it alos help for heat and cold.

I got the material at Hancock Fabrics but I can't find any mention on their website... I will edit if I find out more...

until u buy the blind and if ur baby is being disturbed by the light u can tape up black garbage bags over the windows.
it sure doesnt look pretty but u can hide it with ur regular thin curtains an it really works. since I did it DS is sleeping a good 1 - 2hrs later each morning... BH!!!

Go to any store that sells blinds, such as, home depot or lowes or you can call a hiemishe guy who will come to your house and show you samples, whmever it is tell them you would like to see all window coverings that are ROOM DARKENING, if you want aluminum or wood blinds, or you can have shades that block out the light

We just bought really dark blue curtains from Target for my son's room. We have blinds, but those didnt do anything- with both it really helps.
