New to the board, (not to marriage), so there might already be posts about this but...
My husband would like me to shave my bikini area. I did it a little in the beginning of marriage bec my kallah teacher had mentioned it so I was aware that he might like it. But it was real itchy, and I haven't done it in a long time. Well, trying to be a good wife, I'd like to start again, and would like to know what other people do. I don't think I could handle waxing (I'm the private type), any tips on shaving? what type of shaver, how close, how often...? All tips and suggestions welcome!

I never had the problem of itchiness. maybe its because I started when my hair came in as a girl.
but if you do it often, your skin will adjust and get used to the fact that its hairless and although in the beginning u may have ingrown hairs it stops. try doing it if your a hairy person, three times a week, use shaving cream in the beginning, shave all the way down, put some powder on it to help form itching... if your not hair twice a week to one time a week.
regular shaver, in the shower or bath for comfort and to help keep it moisturized, with lotsa shaving gel in the beginning

You can try something like Bizini Zone - I like the pre-moistened pads. I found that it helped a lot with the itching.

You tried, it wasn't comfy, what about him being a good husband?
Oh, and now kalla teachers mention that? what else??I can't envision it, unless maybe a teacher for BTs with a heavy past...

I use an epilator. it's painful, but cheaper then waxing in the long run. It's no more painful then waxing - just wiht waxing someone else is usually doing it to you.
ask your husband if he cares or not...no need to go through pain for no reason.

B"H I have a great husband. Isn't the key to marriage communication? If we want our husbands to do what we like, but we know they can't read our minds, why is it so terrible for him to let me know what he likes? He's not upset if I don't, just lets me know that he would like if I did. I'm ok with that.

Actually, some hold it's (Sephardi) halacha before the mikva, so of course the kalla teacher mentioned it. I was told of a psak that specifically as a BT I DON'T have to, until/unless I'm ready for it.

Can you say which brand of Sefardi exactly?

I was taught the same by my Syrian kallah teacher. But she told me I don't NEED o do it if I don't want to, But it is common practice to remove all the pubic hair before mikva.
OP, You can try NAIR cream, it hurts less then waxing, and you don't need to show off for the Chinese women at the local salon. Try it before mikva, if you don't like it you do not need to try it again....

depillatory cream is a good option- the Nair "shower power" kind is good, but I find it doesn't take everything off like waxing.

Are you allowed to use the depillatory cream to get rid of all hair down there. I always thought it was dangerous?

If you start the shaving process in the winter when you are sweating less, it'll be less itchy. Use shaving cream and water and you'll be good to go. Good luck!

The first time you do it, use shaving cream, shave in the direction of the hair in single strokes without going over a portion. It won't take all the hair off, by any means, but it's less traumatic for the sensitive follicles.
Moisturize afterward.
Then shave again in a few days.
Moisturize.
Moisturize.
After a couple of times, you'll be able to shave normally against the grain.
