I need help with #2 - should be in emotional health section!

So ds is almost 3 1/2 and I am at my wits end. He has been sleeping dry for at least 6 months. But, when he wears pull-ups, he goes in them. When he wears underwear, he stays dry all day and goes when we tell him to, otherwise he would hold it longer. #2 is still a problem and I don't know how to get him to go in the potty. He's done it a bit once or twice, but never again, despite the cajoling, rewards, support, us sitting with him and reading books, a party afterwards, etc.

At school, he'll be dry all day, but make #2 in the underwear. THey don't want him in underwear (obviously) because he'll make #2 in them. BUT, if he's in pull-ups, he'll make both #1 & #2 in them!!!

And, when I ask why he made #1 in the diaper? "Because I wanted to!"

It's driving me bananas and I need help.

Anyone????

my ds had this problem. He would never do #2 at all in the toilet or potty, although no problem with #1. (he's 5 already) Eventually we took him to a specialist. He gave us prescription laxatives, and it's starting to help. He actually did #2 in school the other day. So far he's only done it on the toilet when we've given him the laxatives...

He was in school for a full year before we started this and he did not have one accident in school. He was able to wait till he came home.

Talk to your pediatrician, they will probably suggest laxatives.

you can also try having him sit on the potty/toilet in a pull up and have him go in that, eventually you progress to taking it off, but I never had success with this method.

ok, here's my megilla. my 3 yr old was fully trained for #1, but wouldn't poop in the toilet. and he wouldn't poop anywhere outside the home. to illustrate the fact, he spent a three day weekend with my ils and didn't poop once. yippee. start school-- he starts taking himself to the toilet without announcing it. does fairly well, but still won't poop in the toilet.

now I see he recognizes when he's pooping. he has a certain facial expression when he needs to go. and he's usually regular in schedule, so I figured we'd have no problem with it in school. he usually does it when he comes home. but now he's having regular accidents (both kinds) in school. the teacher always sounds annoyed when she talks to me about it. and he's wetting himself at home, when I know he knows not to. so I'm wondering what is going on in school. they don't have a regular toilet time for the kids, which I hate. he's also totally exhausted when he comes home. and I know he doesn't like to stop playing to go to the toilet. but I'm wondering if he feels the teacher resents him or something. I'm really frustrated with the whole preschool thing...

We told her if my ds had an accident, call us and we will come instantly to get him. We lived vry close by. Well, she left him for a while in the classroom, dirty and smelly, before calling us. Other kids were making fun of him, and he was very traumatised.

We did send him to the same school, - although this teacher no longer works there (she was new and other parents weren't happy with her either) and I am very happy with his current teachers. His teacher now is very helpful and even took him into the toilet the other day while he did his business becasue although he is overcoming his fear of sitting on the toilet, he is still scared to be in there by himself. (this was the second time he did #2 on the toilet)

Not only are they really hard to find, they're really expensive as well. AND, he makes #1 on the potty, how would he be able to do that with a diaper on?
