my baby doesn't have it badly, but why should she have dandruff coming off her hair?

anyone know what causes it?
I personally do have dry skin, could it be genes?

Nah, cradle cap is typical. I once got it when I was 10! Surprised Don't worry, it will go away on its own, but if you don't like the way it looks for now, baby oil is the way to go. Slather it on, let it soak, and comb it out. Baby won't care.

DD is 3 & still has some on her hairline at the front. It's soooo gross! I used to use mineral oil (or baby oil I guess is ok too.) Then I would scrape with my nail. It's then takes 2 or 3 shampoos to get the oil out but it works.

BTW, I don't think it's dandruff. Dandruff is flakes. This is stuck to the scalp.

Baby oil or olive oil, you can wash the baby's hair twice after, that usually gets the hair ungreased.

my son had it pretty bad for a few months. every so often I would comb it out. it would take forever and make a mess, but he looked much better afterward. he's ka"h 7 months now and it's been gone for a while.

use a nit/lice comb to comb out the hair after applying olive oil. works great. (The metal comb with the long teeth.)

just so you know, when you comb out the cradle cap, the hair comes out too! my first two kids I hated it so I did the baby oil comb thingy and I ended up w/ bald babies w/ no cradle cap lol! by my 3rd I just left it, he scratched out a bit him self, the rest just took care of itself, he's cradle cap free w/ a head of adorable hair! ( ofcourse b"H the hair grows back so you just have to decide how much it bothers you or the baby!)

With my first, I waited too long to treat it and then all her hair came out with it; it was a mess! With subsequent children, I treated it earlier and haven't had any problems.

don't use fingernails--you can cause an infection. Use the oil, then a nailbrush to loosen scales, then wash out the whole thing with shampoo.

I dont know if thats so safe to use on a baby. they do have baby combs like that though that are more sensitive on babys scalp. I used that and it worked really well.

Nope it's not genes, just baby stuff. I have found that if you remove all the cradle cap at one time, it's unlikely to come back. With my oldest, we thought she had reddish hair and then discovered it was cradle cap. It almost happened again this time, LOL

LOL

I didn't have this same experience. No hair came out at all.
