We are staying at a family and eating with the Rabbi and his family. I want to get suitable gifts for both, and not just wine, flowers, or candy. Any ideas?

Small Jewish wise?
Can you bring them something that might be hard to attain in their community?

Plaques for the front door with the family name on it.
A dozen cloth napkins with a YomTov or Shabbos theme.
A set of kitchen towels (dish and hand) with ditto.
If you can find them in the stores already: a chanuka gift set (or make your own set) with extra-tall beeswax candles, extra-virgin olive oil, festive matches, latke and/or sufganiot mix.
A set of nice fluffy bath linens if you can find out what color their bathrooms are.
Generously-sized photo albums.
A set of those gizmos to guard light switches and telephones on Shabbat/YT
An assortment of black and herbal teas in a presentation chest, with or without an accompaniment of a variety of honeys, sugars, or jams.
An assortment of different culinary oils like chili, walnut, sesame or vinegars like wine, balsamic and herbal-infused.
An assortment of unusual spices in pretty jars.

I know that I'd prefer to get a gift card for a place like Bed Bath and Beyond. At least that's something I'd be able to use, rather than getting something I don't need that'll clutter the place up.

Agreed! Target is good too - they have everything for everyone, and the house too. Just be sure to pick a store with online shopping, in case they don't have a local branch.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I went to Marshalls and picked up a really nice set of wine stoppers and a pretty set of shot glasses. Really nice, a little different, and best of all CHEAP!

wine stoppers--now there's a goooood idea. I have a couple that are about to fall apart and could stand to be replaced, so anyone coming to us for a meal, keep that in mind!
