I'm looking to buy a drill for DH but I really have no idea what all the specs mean. Can anyone help me out? I'm looking to buy a cordless drill with a lithium ion battery but after that I'm a little lost. Some of them say "drill/driver" and some of them say "drill/driver/hammerhead" and some of them specify inches. What is that inches of?? the bits?? Shouldn't the bits be interchangable or does it have to specify that they are? Anyone???
*I have been looking at the craftsman ones (sears own brand) because I heard that their tools are good and they have a lifetime warranty...

I actually did get such a thing for dh once. I got a kit with the most generic bits. do you know what he'll be using it for? that's help.

not really- just for things around the house, the sukkah, and things like that.
Do most drills come with a few bits?

hammerhead is always better - it has more power ... make sure the batteries are long lasting and it has an extra one for back-up (you don't want to run out of power in the middle of a project)

although craftsman has a warranty on tools - not sure how that would work on a drill with lots of wear & tear ...

stay away from black & decker

dewalt is a great drill ...

Dewalt is one of the better drills and you could get good deals on them when buying a set.

lithium are the new ones that supposedly won't run out ... but there is a risk of blowing up ... then again everything has a risk ...

as for the inches could be - and it's just my brain here thinking that some bits are only about an inch long and don't stay in as well as the ones that are say 3 inches long ... more sturdy ...

My husband has a Ryobi drill and lots of other Ryobi equipment. It comes with an 18V battery that's rechargable and adaptable to other pieces (like a flashlight?). It's lasted a long time and works well! He has other drills too, but I see him using this one most often.

Thanks! The ryobi one looks nice but is 100 dollars more than the craftsman comparable one. Is it worth it??

Makita impact lithium drill driver is what my dh the contractor is recommending from years of working with tools. He says to purchase it only by Sears. Nowhere else.

I think that the "inches" you're asking about is the maximum regular bit size that the drill chuck can hold, generally 3/8" or 1/2". You can purchase bits larger than the chuck but they cost more.
