how do I teach social skills to a 9 year old?
He has trouble playing with kids his age and acts funny and wild to get attention.
always jumping around instead of interacting as a kid his age should interact.

Does he know how to listen when people talk?
Try giving him reminders when he's around the family. Like if you or anyone else are talking and he interrupts, try saying something like "Moishy, I know you want to talk, but if you want people to listen to you when you talk, you have to wait for other people to finish talking before you start talking."

Things like that.

There is a book I have used in the classroom, called "The Social Skills Handbook". It says it was written for autistic children, but trust me, it's helpful to any child who has to review the basics of asking to join in play, get a teacher's attention, wants a toy someone else has, etc.

It is a really good, and useful book. It uses lots of pictures of (classroom-based) situations to demonstrate the correct behavior in each situation.

IDK if your son is having the same difficulties at school, as at home, but it will give you a starting point for how to teach social skills, through discussion and acting out each situation. HTH

and he will answer -- I always wait for people to finish talking.
dh spoke to him about an issue we noticed with friends - he turned to him and said - someone must be saying lashon hara about me - you can't believe that..

Sorry, I made a mistake. It's called "The Social Skills Picture Book" by Jed Baker.
