Once made into a bottle (mixed with water)- how long does formula last?
Please respond with both scenarios: refrigerated and kept at room temperature. TIA

I use neosure which is similac based. Similac told me 3 hours out of fridge, 48 hours in fridge.

I have a child that is tube fed formula. The way it works is that you fill a bag with formula and it goes in a steady slow rate. We were told that formula is good up to SIX hours in room temperature. Of course in the summer we don't leave eight hours worth at a time.

Duh! I should have thought about that. Policy where I work, tube fed kids can have 4 hours of formula out at a time. I think the one hour is only if they have started to drink from teh bottle b/c enzymes from the baby's saliva can affect the formula. Anyway, that is what we taught mom's in the hospital when I worked L&D.

if it's just sitting out on the table, it can be out for 3 hours. ONce you start feeding, it should be discarded after an hour because of the bacteria saliva breeds. (although I usually still use it after 2, shhhh)

Question on chava/mindy's mention of one hour life, from bottle once it was drunken from......
Does this mean once baby has drunken from bottle, (even if just a little bit) after one hour (irrelevant of whether it's been refrigerated or not) it should be discarded???

IF YES---- oooooops, I just gave my baby 2.5 oz from a bottle she drank from last night- but refrigerated overnight???!!!!

all forjmula companies say NOT to put a bottle back in the fridge once it's been drunk from. I know you end up wasting a lot of formula but it's for safety reasons.
