One of my babies HATED rice cereal, spit it out every time, I gave them mashed avacodos and bananas from under 5 months old and had no problems with it.

he could have other fruits and veggies if its the first time he had it you can do one fruit at a time. my dd and ds both hated rice cereal I used to mix it with apple sauce. I also add a little bit of sugar to to rice ceral and water.

Not everyone does it that way; cereal is constipating.
Some start with orange and yellow fruits and veggies.

just make sure to try a new fruit of veggie only every 4 days or so, so you can test for allergies. also, you can try oatmeal. it was the only cereal dd would eat.

I always mix cereal (oatmeal or rice) with a fruit or veggie. the cereal has a lot of iron in it - htat's why I like to give it.

I don't blame them for not liking it it doesn't taste very good. I only give it for the iron and other vitamins.

1) try oatmeal cereal.
2) you can try applesauce or pureed carrots too.

I tried bananas, he spat it right out and made the funniest faces. I'll keep trying though, thanks! How much should he eat of it in a day past six months?

I started my baby on barley (cuz he didn't make and it has lots of fiber) and at first he didn't like it...or anything for that matter (I gave fruits and veggies one at a time too), but I kept offering and now B"H he's a little fresser. Babies that young usually will make a face and spit out the food the first time they try something new.
Are you nursing? You could mix your milk with the cereal or if you bottle feed mix with formula. This way it tastes rather familiar.

there's not rule what you have to start with...just not something very allergic.
keep trying the banana...give it a few days, he may like it. does he eat any foods yet? make sure to wait a few days between foods (3-4) to make sure there's not allergic reaction.
they say some foods a child with eat after being introduced to it MANY times. So many, for example, after your son is used to oatmeal, you can mix rice and oatmeal cereal and tyr it out...just a suggestion.g
good luck!\
ps don't worry about how much he eats at this point. as long as he's drinking formula or nursing, just let him eat once or twice a day how much he wants. even if just a spoonful. I started my older son on solids at 6 months.

wow! How does a 1 year old adjust to eating solids? Do they seem hard to please or the opposite?

When I started solids I went straight to fruit and veg (at 6 mths).
There is no reason to start on rice cereal and bananas. Many ppl are allergic to wheat so try maybe oatmeal cereal and veg (seperate 1st then together) and you can mix your bm or formula with it so it tastes familiar. I also don't give bananas bec they are constipating.

you wouldn't like it either it tastes gross!! try mixing it with formula or breast milk the baby will like it better.
Also babies tend to spit foods out the first few times, it doesn't mean they dislike it, it is thier way of tasting it.
Try another cereal before moving on to more complex foods, It may also be that your son is just not all that intrested in food yet, wait for him to display signs of wanting solids, such as grabbing food from the table or trying to get your food.
Most pediatricians reccomend starting with grains, then vegtables then fruit. they say to do vegtables first, because they are not as sweet as fruits, and once a child develops a sweet tooth, it is hard to convince them to eat veggies! (from experience, I know this to be true!)

Everyone's allergic to something. I think it's silly to wait on so much stuff becuase some other kids have alergies. I just watch the foods with nitrates...the ones you can't cook yourself: carrots, beets, cabbage, spinach... An no nuts or honey. We might try milk soon. My daughter is ten months and she loves cheese and cottage cheese. I let her have some peanut butter, but don't tell. She was begging for it. I just watched her carefully, and she was fine. We have no food allergies in the family.
