My DH's niece is becoming bas mitzvah soon and we've no idea what to get her. She has jewelry, getting machzorim, has a sidur (I think)...
She is the oldest grandkid on our side so it would sort of set a precedent too- so it can't be too outrageous... Don't really have a price range, but maybe somewhere between $20-40?
(And she is not having a party with friends bec. it is the summer)
TIA

How about a pretty pink tehilim with her name on it?
A nice necklace, bracelet or ring?
Or maybe a nice jewelry box with her name, because she might be getting a lot of stuff.

I'm for the really nice jewelry box. That's what we always get, the girls get tons of jewelry and don't have a really cool box for it, I try to get something in really nice carved wood that can stand on a dresser with a little mirror inside or something really classy that can also be used for other things if she isn't into jewelry. And get it wrapped really classy with rose petals and the like.

The tehillim is a good idea, but for two things: I am not sure she says tehillim (though I can ask, I suppose) and I don't think I have time to personalize... I'll mention it to DH.
And I would prefer to keep away from anything to do with jewelry.

FYI, I had a tehillim personalized and it was ready later the same day. Not sure where you live, but it may be worth looking into if that's what you want to get her.

I just found out that she has a sidur and tehillim, so that is out... The jewelry box idea is not bad, but I was looking online and couldn't find any in my price range that looked nice.
Any other ideas??? Please!

How about a tzedekah box? My daughter and her friends loved getting them. I know you wanted to stay away from jewelry but we've given gifts from the Jewish museum in NY, Hebrew silver name necklaces, and nice hamsas in that price range.

I think the jewelry box is a really nice idea but here are some others:
a watch
a gift certificate to a (book) store she likes
a personalized towel robe/towel set
a travel bag

Thanks for the ideas. I spoke with DH and SIL and this is what the choices are now (which we have to decide between): stereo (she likes music), personalized travel bag/knapsack (just may be too much money), personalized thank you cards.
I like the idea of the stereo because I think she'd appreciate it the most, but I can't find any without a radio with it. Do you know of any brands that make that? I know worse comes to worse, they can disable the radio setting if they want...

I like the idea of a stereo, too. But, I do not know if they make them without radios. Does she have an ipod where you can get her speakers or something?

She has an mp3 player, but not an ipod- though she really wants that!
