take the potty to the park?

Dd just started potty training. She's doing pretty well, bh but I'm tired of being homebound with her. I would like to take the kids to the park today, but there is the bathroom there. Should I bring the potty with us and if she has to go, just stick her in the corner with it? It sounds pretty gross and too public for my liking, but I'm not sure what else to do.

I think it's gross and very not tsanua to have your kid use the potty in the park, sorry.

but I do empathize that you need to get out.

is there somewhere in the park that's VERY secluded, where noone can see you that you could go to use it? I once saw a guy letting his son use the potty in the park and I thought that was awful. as dirty as the park may be, it's not a public bathroom.

Once they were on the way to being trained, I shlepped the potty everywhere. Why not? It's better than them squatting on the grass in public...you can put it behind a tree & then water the flowers! Take baby wipes to clean up, plastic bags for disposing of non-liquids, & plenty of spare underwear in case of accidents.

I think the potty is the perfect place to "go". I trained my 22 month old dd and having her wait the 10 minutes from when she says "Mommy I have to go noooooowwwww!!" till we get to a bathrrom is asking for an accident and not helpful with the training. Put the potty in a far corner somewhere and crouch next to her; it makes it less obvious than if you're just standing there waiting for her to do her thing. Eventually, they get big enough to hold it in till you can get to a bathroom but there WILL be times when your child is desperate and if you don't bring the potty because of what other people will think, you'll end up with a kid "going" on the grass or in the trees and if you want to know what people think about that, check out the thread on just that topic...........

I wouldn't take the potty to the park.
But I also wait to train my kids until they are ready.
Usually takes two days if they are really ready and for two days you can stay in. Do it friday and shabbos and by sunday dry kids. We are talking daytime training right? Night is harder and takes another few months sometimes.

Also we didn't use potty's. Yuk. Who wants to clean such a thing. Got that contraption that fits over the toilet and hast a step to get them there. They loved it, sat there and did their thing and it was always fine.

A friend of mine whose mother is a kindergarten teacher taught me the following. If you try to toilet train them at 2 and they aren't ready, stop. Wait until three. They are ready in a day. If you try to teach a kid to read at four and they aren't ready, stop. Teach them at six or even older, they will learn to read in three days.

WE have to have patience.

I am patient. Very. And so is my Dh. I just feel bad for the kids that they're stuck in the house all day for the while. Yes, I know it wont be long. We're going to try going out for an hr tomorrow and see how it goes.

I scratched the potty in the park idea as a) I wasn't comfortable with it and b) the weather here stinks.

Oh, and we're usually the only ones in the park. Only once, were we there with someone else. All the kids are still in school.

Gotta tell ya...we tried Friday & Shabbat...no go. He was almost trained at the end of chol hamoed Sukkot, but the daycare put him back in diapers because they didn't want to deal with it. By the end of Shabbat he was climbing up the walls; this with a backyard and being allowed out there. 2 days doesn't work for everyone, even when the kids are ready. (He's 3.5, wakes up dry from naps & overnight, but refuses to actually use the toilet/potty/seat.)
