sarahd, I just reread my instructions and I made two major typos, so I've corrected. Sorry. By the way, today I used regular OJ and not concentrate, and it didn't cook down all that much. Concentrate slightly diluted works better. So it's more like orange flavored carrots. Didn't have any concentrate in the house. My kid likes them anyway, probably because I added brown sugar and a little butter.

Typos aside (and I figured out what you meant even with them) the carrots came out very good. They would have been delicious if I had cooked them in somewhat saltier water, which I shall do next time, since our non-salt guest won't be here.

Actually, I used this week as a trial run. The carrots were appreciated by all, so I plan to make them for our Rosh Hashana tzimmes.

Glad to hear it worked out. I do the same thing (roast with orange glaze) with sweet potatoes, also.

I would try this out this week, but it's so hot I don't want to use the oven more than I have to. I assume this can't be cooked like the carrots.

Uhhhh...

Trying to figure that one out.

Home made pitas.

Chicken soup, perhaps with matza balls.

Israeli salad
Eggplant mock chopped liver
Either purple cabbage salad with soy or regular cabbage salad (salt and oil- simple and delicious) or curried carrot sauerkraut if its ready by then.

Chicken pot pie

Melon for desert.

Do you have the Spice and Spirit cookbook? The Chicken in Mushroom Sauce recipe is really great. A friend of mine made it for us when I had our last baby and I've made it a few times since. It's delicious! Quick and Kosher's Speedy Coq Au Vin is also really yummy!!
