(I'm posting this here as opposed to in the sheitel section so I can post anonymously.)
I hate my sheitel!!! I used to have beautiful long, blonde hair which was the pride and joy of my youth (ok I'm exaggerating a little) and now my stupid sheitel completely ruined my hair. I won't even complain about how my hair lost its highlights and lushness, the main thing that bothers me is that I have a bald spot at the top front of my hairline! How gross and embarassing! (and painful - it's always sore there) And I barely even wear the sheitel - I wear it maybe twice a month, otherwise I wear my fall. But I have this ugly bald spot right up front and tons of little wispy flyaways growing in all around the front of my hairline as if a ton of hair was pulled out (I don't recall that much hair ever being pulled out.) Anyone have any suggestions? From asking people, it seems that most people don't have this problem. Why does this happen to my hair? Will it grow back? I wish they made soft sheitel clips...

I have had portions get pulled out over time. My first sheitel had a comb/clip in the front. My current one just has a comb. I found I don't have issues with hair getting pulled out there now. It is rather simple to replace the clip with a comb instead.
Mine is like 7 tooth version on this website:

I didn't bald at all, although my hairs in the front got crimped, and in the beginning, painful. Perhaps taking vitamins will help with the balding issue. (Biotin, Keratin...ask the experts)
And then, there is always another option, you know, what some ladies in certain communities do....

I never had this problem until I got my new shaitel. It is not from the same company as my others and it keeps on pulling out hair in the front of my hairline. I am also sore. I dont know why this happens.

I wear a wig cap under mine and just attach the comb to the cap- you can also go and ask to have two small side comb put in, instead of the big front one...

I had the same problem with a fall sheitel. After parting with it I became the official hat lady. At the time I was a teacher in a conservative day school. At home in the privacy of your family just let the roots breath again your hair will grow back! Take sheitel breaks and wear it when it is necessary.
Also try to find a less heavy sheitel, mine was so heavy I felt as though I had my head leaning back all the time.

Where did you get your wig cap?

Same here. My wigs have combs in the front, and clips on the side. The clips are awful; they pull out hair and make me so sore, but at least they're at the sides. The comb doesn't bother me at all and doesn't pull out any hair. Is switching an option? It's really pretty simple. I would recommend speaking to a shaitel macher about it so that you don't ruin the cap.

I think the main thing is to have several clips or combs, whichever you find more comfortable, in various spots. Then you can use them all to distribute the tension, or alternate which ones you use in order to give your hair in different places a break.
I went through the same problem you're dealing with, OP, and all of my hair has grown back since eliminating the comb in the front center. (I used to have to twist or braid the front of my hair to get my shaitel to stay in place, and it STILL slipped back and pulled...)
I now have clips (which I prefer) at the temples and just in front of my ears. Feels MUCH more comfortable.

OP here. Thank you so much everybody for all the helpful replies and suggestions. I currently have a comb, not a clip - although I have clips by the earpieces which hurt also. But the bald spot is by the comb...
As far as a wig cap, I don't understand how that works - how do you secure the comb in the wig cap - doesn't it need to be in hair? I'm imagining you sliding the comb under the front of the wig cap, but I could see my whole sheitel sliding off with the wig cap (I have an impossible time keeping hats/scarves from sliding off).
I considered the idea of taking out the comb and putting in two more side clips, but then then I'm afraid that I'll just have two side bald spots instead of one middle one!

Unfortunately I think it's the price we married women pay. Hair that is covered all the time will eventually lose its shine and lushness, and those bald spots are pretty common. I never had beautiful hair, and frankly I look better in shaitel than hair, but my hair became mousy grey and thin. My kids think it's really really funny that mommy has "grey hair" (I'm in my 20's).
I've made peace with it... My hair is covered 100% of the time anyway, so I guess it doesn't really matter anyway.

I would never ruin my hair by wearing a ful shaitel or fall every day. I wear mostly scarves and hats, even with that my hair is not as nice as it was. I do not cover in the house (only if there are people over), maybe that will change as I have older children but minimum I do not cover at night so my hair can breathe. This might not be fine with everyone according to their hair covering custom but this is the level I am at.

I'm no expert but one tip I got was to take the comb and try to stick it in twice so it won't pull back as much.

I buy the wig caps at beauty supply stores- they are something like 2 for a dollar, and I slide the clip under it- its like a stocking, so it holds it in- my hair wraps were forever slipping off- people would stop me on the street to tell me to pull my hair wraps up....

I never heard of the wig caps before. Do they cause your head to sweat in the summer?

there is a new product, its from austrailia, but I only know one store that sells it out of town. I dont know enough info, I think if you contact sheina wigs they may be able to give you info on it (the person who came to town selling sheina wigs sold these bands for her friend.)
well anywas its a band, kind of one you'd put on top of a band fall. It's made of velvet, but a special one, and when the right side is facing up the shaitel connects to it, you dont need ot use your combs or clips and a child can not pull your sheitle off of your head.

You can try shampoo for thinning hair,my hair has thinned out terribly in the front.I must say the shampoo is helping slowly to get it back to what it was.

YOu can try these caps:
stocking cap
or similar stocking cap #2
or fish net wig cap
(http://www.internationalwig.com/Wig_Caps_s/137.htm)
I get the same thinning in front with out it. I put the comb clip into the bad around the forehead instead of my hair. But I also get the soreness from the snug fitting of any wig cap. It's a lose-lose situation for me.

I posted earlier about the clips at the temples... the secret with clips is to make sure you get the positioning the way you want it before clipping - then clip - then LEAVE IT ALONE. Then it will be comfortable and not pull.
The problem with combs is that you have to twist or braid or tangle up the hair in some way in order for a comb to stay. Then the comb pulls and the hair thins out.
Also, there are bigger clips and smaller ones. some are more comfortable than others - try different ones.

Because you'll be distributing the tension among more spots, you shouldn't have a problem.

Why not just take out the comb - if the shaitel fits well it should stay put - maybe its too big?
