I went to Mario Badescu and thought that the focus was more on the cleansing and blackhead clearing that relaxation...and I walked out there looking very beat up! Took a few days for the swelling to go down....

I personally prefer Aveda facials for more relaxation. I know that many facials also include a should/arm massage....

I've been going for years and never had a problem with swelling or even redness. Try going to a different facialist... It's possible for different pple to have different results. They ARE putting pressure on your skin to extract blackheads to it's not totally unlikely to get a bit red. They say not to get a facial right before a big event in case you're sensitive so you're face can have time to calm down.
They include a shoulder massage also. They are very professional and for that price you can't beat it. Especially in the city. Celebrities go there as well. I see a wall of photos in the waiting room with their signatures along with comments saying nice things about their experience with MB. The one thing I will say negative is that if you get placed in the rooms near the first waiting room you hear the front desk chatter so I always suggest being placed on the other side.

I was very happy with Edith 718-646-6831. She is in Sheepshead Bay. You can get there by train. Her products are also all natural and very good.

No I have never done that. Only face. It's worth a try though. If they do a great job with faces which is more sensitive I imagine that it would be good for other parts also.
Btw I also add on glycolic acid in addition to the facial. I've had that put on my neck area as well. I feel it makes a big difference in terms of my skin staying clearer for longer.

I have heard horror stories about facials leaving permanent scars. I only allow my dermatologist to touch my blackheads.
If I go for a facial, do I have to buy their products? I like the stuff I use, and see no reason to switch.
My skin is very sensitive, I have rosacea(sp?)

I still like the idea of a facial. it would be the ultimate gift to myself.

went and had a great facial. I also have rosacea and use thier products specifically for that. Had a vitamin c facial and calming mask! The best part is that you leave there with tons of samples!

$65 a facial. The package which includes man/ped and massage is $165. They also try to suggest different add on treatments during the facial for your skin type and sometimes they cost extra money so if the facialist recommends something ask the price before you say yes but you dont have to feel pressured bec they are used to people telling them I want the $65 facial and no add ons. They have lots of staff and not so busy now so you can usually get an appointment for the next day! Enjoy and let me know if you went! I left there with a bag full of about 12 samples!

no, you do not have to buy products. It's optional.

I used to go to a Russian woman in Sheepshead Bay - Avenue Y or Z or thereabouts and E. 14. I liked her better than Mario Badescu, it was more convenient and I liked her products more also. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name anymore. Does anyone know whom I'm talking about?

You mean Edith?
She's excellent. I tried at least 4 other places and was most happy with her.
