Anyone out there took a make up course before?
I saw Debby Grossman's ad, and thought maybe I should look into it. My sister's say I have the feel for it!
Also, did you go on your own, or with a companion?

I took one. I wanted to go to Debby but she was very pricey. I ended up going to Christine Valmy school in Manhattan (although they have a few locations) and was very satisfied with them. I took the basic and advanced course, they have daily schedules, night schedules....

Thanks, Beaut..
I googled christine, and emailed them too.
What made you decide to go to Christine?
How was your experience?
Are you doing prof make up for others now?
Thanks for your help!

I dont want to go in detail but I would really suggest that you ask a few people who went to Debby if they were happy with her before making a decision.

I decided on C. Valmy because I wanted a school in the city and they're right next to me. But I also did a lot of research and asked a few people that went and they recommended I go there. They were also a little cheaper than the other schools here in Manhattan if I remember correctly. Another one I had thought of going to was Lia Schorr Institute if you want to look into that.
I was very happy with their isntruction, but I'm just letting you know that if you want to go for bridal instruction you need to take the advanced course which also includes a lot of things I'll probably never use, like stage makeup... (although it did come in handy on Purim )
Also, I bought supplies and stuff but as of now I'm not really doing it professionally as I work full time and there's no way I can do both (except for Sundays). I have had a few jobs though, and I did my sisters for their inlaw's weddings.
Also to the amother above, I've heard VERY mixed reviews on Debby...depends who you ask.
Good luck!

Just wanted to add...even though I'm not really doing it professionally right now, I'm very happy I went. I use what I learnt on myself all the time and I think it was worth it just for that.

Beauticianista, do you get a proper NY State license after completing the C. Valmy course?
How long did the course take?
How much did it cost (including advanced)?

Here is all the info, they are very helpful if you call with questions and I think you can request a brochure from them as well.

Thanks Beauticianista for all your help.
I google Lia Schorr Institute.
Can I ask why you chose C.V. instead of Lia Schorr??
Also, when you went, did you go with company, or did you make friends there?
Amother-- also inquiring about a make up course? maybe we can go together?!??!

I went to Christine Valmy too, as well as another make-up school. I am doing makeup professionally and I am very happy that I attended Christine Valmy, I learnt a lot of good tips there.
Most of make-up application should be talent, but you can learn how to work with the cameras and lighting and I found that CV taught me well.
Edited to add: I went alone. You're there to learn, not to socialize. You can chat with the guys/girls in your class, but most of the time you're taking notes or applying make-up.

I chose C.V. because the hours and location were more convenient for me (I work one block from their midtown location) and if I remember correctly, it came out a little cheaper as well.
I went alone but I actually met someone who I'm now very good friends with (frum chassidishe woman), but that was pure luck. I didn't want any of my friends coming with me, it was something I wanted to do myself.
