I want to buy my dh something that he would appreciate and I know that he really wants a nice pen, does anyone know where the best place to buy one is and what company. I know that people are into Mont Blanc and some like Cartier, do you go to department stores or do you go to Mont Blanc directly? Thanks anyone for advice.

Yes, go to Saks Fifth Avenue.

Because every place sells these items for the same prices, and you'll get great service and beautiful packaging at Saks.
Monte Blonc is the way to go.

When I bought a Montblanc, I bought it at a high end stationary/writing supply store. They are beautiful. I think they make a lovely gift.

I'm a Waterman kind of a girl, myself.
I second the high-end stationary store. They have more experience with the product, and may be able to provide you with better advice.

Can you name a type of store that you call high end stationary store? I know that last year I saw it on sale in Saks and Bloomingdales and I should have bought it then it's something my dh really wants. But now I'm on a time limit so I can't really wait for sales.
By the way, what should the price be for a fountain pen? Is Mont Blanc really better than Cartier?

I bought mine at Menash, but they closed years ago. There's a place that looks similar on Madison in the mid 80's, but I don't know the name.
Thank goodness for Google. Here is the place, it's called Venture. I've never been inside, but this is their pen page:
http://www.ventureonmadison.co.....s.htm
Either they're pricy, or the prices have gone up. Maybe both. But those pens are so beautiful! A gorgeous and thoughtful gift, for a pen-lover.
I had a boss who was a nut for Montblanc. He had several of them, like they were Bics.

montgomery stationary in bp sells them. I think they are well priced. I bought a mini ballpoint montblanc last year for $180 or somewhere there. I went to the mont blanc store in short hills last week for refills and asked them how much the pen sells for, they said $338. They have a website.

Cross pens are also very nice. I bought a pen/pencil set for my dh online at Things Remembered and got it engraved with his name!

Where is Montgomery located in BP? Are they trustworthy that they are actually selling real pens and not fakes? Do you know their phone number? Thanks.

another vote for montblanc here.
cartier makes *pretty* pens, but montblanc is really known for making THE BEST PENS AROUND.
they are pricey but make a really beautiful and lasting gift.
my ILs gave me one a few yrs ago when I started school and I love love love it. Im just scared to put it in my pocket because what if it falls out and I lose it?
my father has one too and loves it.
DH isnt "into" pens and would prefer a bic. but I think montblanc is the way to go.

Cartier is more expensive. Simpson's in Boro Park discounts the pens nicely.

Are there any other stationary stores like Montgomery. They have good prices but they don't have a huge selection? Thanks.
