I'm looking for things I can do with 3 year old ds that are either free or cheap. for example, the beach or the park. can u suggest anything else?

Bubbles.
Painting the sidewalk with water.
Sidewalk chalk.
Dance to music.

if you'd be going frequently, it may be worth getting a museum pass.
Also, I know not all places have this. But in the Boston Public Library, you can "take out" a pass for childfriendly places. So instead of paying $9/person to the Childrens Museum, you get the pass, and pay only $2 entry.
See if your local library has such a thing.

I dont know where you are but the brooklyn children's musuem is free every other sunday if you get there before 11:00. check website for dates.
