it's too much already ... enough with the FUNERAL BLACK ... today I counted 10 people - including kids and myself that weren't garbed in black ... shock

it's springtime - flowers blooming - people should be less morbidly dressed ...

greenie, didn't your mother used to tell you, "no black on anyone under 18, no black after April 1"? Things have changed, definitely for the worse. Its the uniform, I guess. I once had a non-Jew ask me if it was a tenet (sp.?) of orthodox judaism that the women must wear black!

I remember going to a Bar Mitzvah about 10 years ago, and being the only one with a colorful suit. Now I sort of fell in with the black business, although you could still find me wearing pink!
But I definitely agree that it is strange that little girls also wear black. They could afford the color!

I also agree it's to much black. I also love to wear black clothing but it's just gone to far. And little girls look so cute in color. I have a very dear friend who always dresses her daughter like a little girl in the prettiest dresses and not black. She always wears matching hair bows and looks so sweet. What has happened to us.

sorry- but I look good in black and skinnier too. I can wear black anyday, any time. My kids I like to see them in color. They have every color I would love to wear if I looked good in it. BTW- today I'm wearing red.

Black is very tzniusdik. That and dark brown and dark navy should be the only colors allowed after age three. Both boys and girls. Girls should also only wear thick black stocking after age three.
Also thick black shoes
During the winter only thick black coats
During the summer after age 12 thin black coats during the summer as well.
Burkas are optional.

????? what?!??

no one said anything about mandating black. some people just like it. why can't people dress as they wish (within halachic boundaries) as they wish without comment?

Just as someone wants flowers---nu, let them wear black!

My wedding outfits are black, simply cuz it's classy and slenderizing. my every day clothing are not black, but also staid colors like navy and white, powder blue and white, gray and black... I like wearing demure colors. bright colors that catch the eye arent that tzniusdig. not to mention yuntchy Wink

here's a newsflash for all of you ...

blubber is still blubber ... even in black ... try something happy with a girdle ... if you want to hide it ...

faces look sullen with the ghastly colour of death ...

Green, I just realized the other day that I hardly wear black anymore!

On Shabbos I wore a white top, a colorful skirt (oranges, reds, yellows) and strappy sandals. I was surprised to see so many people in black.

I went to a journal fundraising dinner a few weeks ago in my town. I have a beautiful maternity outfit that I love. It's dressy and very nice. It's a blue jacket and shirt with a blue, white and light blue floral skirt. I felt so out of place when every other woman (no joke!) was in black.

I have been told in my town (even among young girls and teens) that there are only 3 colors: regular black, black black, and shiny black!

LOL
I think burkas could be very practical in summer if you wear nothing underneath. Lots of room for air to circulate and keep you cooler and drier than conventional garb. And with that getup, we can all kiss our diet books goodbye and eat as we please.
