I imagine it's a convertible bra and that's why the straps (not the band) sometimes unhook themselves at will - any ideas ?

If you have no intention of using the conversion feature, sew the hook to the loop by "overcasting" with many closely spaced stitches so you form a sort of thread tunnel. Do this tightly so the hook can't slip out. Or else just tack a few stitches on either side of the loop, very close to the hardware, to close off the loop and make it impossible for the hook to slip out. (wish I could draw on this thing so it would be clearer.) You could also use a pliers to squeeze the hook closed, but if the hook is plastic that won't work.
