I'm not sure if I should keep this question in the teacher's room thread or if I should move it to a hashkafa forum----
Would you feel weird buying non-kosher snacks for your students given the circumstance that you know for certain no student nor staff member who may eat them are Jewish?

I wouldn't. I should think it would look weird. and honestly, if I'm providing snacks, I want to eat some too Smile

dh has bought non kosher cookies for the house before and when I saw they had no hechsher, I brought them straight into school for my students. I would go out and buy for them again... but really, if oreos and other kosher snacks are readily available, why not by them?

some may also say it's a problem to by the nonkosher items because of maris ayin.

exactly what I meant. I can also see someone not familiar with hechshers buying whatever you buy because you're obviously frum and know what you're doing. don't think it doesn't happen.

That was really my gut instinct too--
I'm just planning a themed party for my students on Thursday and the snack I wanted to get does not have a hechsher--it can't be substituted easily unless I want to make it myself...

I was in a similar pickle. I occasionally picked up groceries for an elderly non-Jewish neighbor. It wasn't a problem at all until she asked if I would pick up a pack of chicken. The store I go to doesn't have kosher meats... Hmmmm... I couldn't make myself do it.
