when I did a playgroup many many moons ago, there was a little boy who was just starting to be toilet trained and the mother told us that he was going to need "help" in the bathroom. I did not know what she meant until I saw what she meant Smile

sorry if this is TMI for anyone, but I had to hold his p3nis down for him (he stood) othewise the urine went everywhere except into the toilet. just help them hold themselves until they get that they have to do it for themselves. thats what I did and it worked. maybe two weeks or so after I started to help him, he was able to do it himself.

ds's ganenet tells the kids when they are sitting to "touch their shoes." If you picture that, you'll realize that it puts them in the right position. I usually start them off sitting and teach standing a few months later when they have things down pat. Usually in the beginning they are too short to stand comfortably. Although I think toilets in America are a bit lower than the ones in E"Y.

I would direct his hand to hold it and explain to him ... and push his tush forward with a gentle hand so he knows to aim proper ... but standing makes the most sense as this is how he will learn proper technique ...

They sit until they are tall enough to stand.

Sitting also is advantageous if they are not able to communicate well exactly what "needs to be done."

OTOH, I would make sure they know how to stand before they go to real school (not gan/playgroup). And also that a ganenet knows which the boy is used to.
