My kids' school is having their lag b'omer activities next Monday afternoon--from something like 5 pm til 7 pm. DH is concerned that our kids shouldn't go because it's not really lag b'omer yet at that time and there will be such a festive atmosphere, live music, etc. The various rebbeim connected to the school don't seem concerned, but none of them are rebbeim of whom we would ask shailohs anyway.

Is there really anything wrong with our kids (ages 7-12; the oldest is bas mitzvah) attending this? I don't want them excluded from a big school activity where all their friends will be, but I don't want to let them do something they shouldn't either.

What exactly are they doing? If it’s just a picnic it’s not that big a deal, is it?

I have the same concern for the school that I teach at. The weather is bad so they're delaying celebration til next week, but it's sfira! Doesn't make sense to me.

I can see postponing other types of trips or activities, but IMO, you celebrate Lag B'Omer on Lag B'Omer!

as for the event next week, how about finding out exactly what it will consist of and if it sounds questionable, ask your own rabbi what to do
