We are thinking of sending our daughter next year to BSS but we live in North America and would really appreciate any insight into the seminary... what kind of girls does it attract? What kind of girls is it catering to? Any other information at all would help. Thank you

I was in Sem in Gateshead.
We had a few Americans, a good few of them had friends in BSS.

Is this really so?? When I was there around 13 years ago, I would say around close to 50% were chassidish.

No idea the demographic nowadays, but just pointing out that not being chassidish doesn't make it modern...

Does your daughter attend YHS, or a chassidishe school?

As an alumnus I’ll say- It’s a very very special school. It’s not one type so you’ll have a hard time wrapping your head around that concept.
It’s run by amazing hanhalla and is a refreshing experience. I don’t know the current crowd that goes but I will say it’s ALWAYS Been a mixed crowd. That’s part of its joy and unique charm.

Wow, this post made me feel nostalgic...
I was there from 2002 to 2004 , that's many years ago.
It was an incredible experience that I cherish to this day.
In my times there were many chassidish girls there.
I heard that it's changed alot since then but am not sure how and why. I would assume that the fact that this generation is so different is part of the reason.
The hashkafos and life values I learned there stays with me.
I also still keep up with a couple of good friends I made there.

This. I was there in 2017. It's definitely still a mixed crowd.
the hashkafas are still with me and the Rabbanim are fantastic.
I think the chassidish change Ruchi mentioned was that they used to accept super-chassidish girls. Now that there's options like satmar sem etc, most will go there so BSS is no longer a 'chassidish' sem.

Not true. We’re chassidish and we all went there and my sister is now learning there. It is more that the chassidish girls from london have stopped going to seminaries with dorms and just stay in local seminaries.

Btw I absolutely loved it there and according to my younger sisters it only got better. Better staff, more interesting shiurim. Crowd is very mixed so everyone can find friends. I am still in touch with some of my sem friends ten years later.
