What’s the community like? What kind of people are living there? Are there supermarkets restaurants there?

Fair Lawn is huge and has many different areas and therefore many different shuls. Its a big mix of Russians and Modern Orthodox (on all levels, some in sheitels, some in pants). As far as the community goes it really depends on which area you settle in/which shul you affiliate yourselves with. Alot of people are young professionals commuting to the city for work. A big majority are well to do
There is one small jewish grocery store (owned & operated by a chassideshe guy from monroe) there and they are Extremely overpriced.
Its 20min to Passaic & 30min to Monsey (alot of people shop & stock up)
There are 2 pizza shops, Chinese restaurant, a bakery, a deli, a shwarma place, and a new fleishig takeout place
You also have shoprite of Paramus in the next town over which is owned by a frum person so ita very well stocked and priced.
There is also a really good "farmers market" produce store with amazing prices.
