No I would never let a man see my hair unless it was an urgent medical issue or something.
I used to have men cut my hair before I got married.

I was told that it's not allowed even before I was married. As a married woman it would be even more problematic.

Just curious:
If you are allowed to go to a male gynecologist, why not a male hairdresser?

There are more male obgyn than female and people often go to a specific one for his expertise. Hair dressers you can find more women and it’s not a need. So I don’t see why there would be an exception. Also a doctor is a very professional job vs a hair dresser is more chummy and touchy feely and not as a professional relationship.

There is a heter to use a male doctor if he is significantly better/expert in his field.
If not one is too use a female doctor.
This is because of kdushat hachaim.
Don't you see a difference between a doctor and a hairdresser?

Because the halacha allows for male doctors but not male hairdressers.

90% of male hairdressers are gay. That said, I would only go to a male one if he was exceptionally good at his craft and well-known like a celebrity hairstylist and if I didn't mind paying 1k-5k just for a haircut. Since I do mind, no I wouldn't go to one.

I definitely see a difference!
But many posters on imamother use male gynecologists because they say they prefer them to women. Which I find odd. So I assume that they would also have no trouble going to a male hairdresser

A male hairdresser may not see your hair. Regardless if he's gay or not.

It's not that simple.
Female medical practitioners are actually preferred by halacha for a female if all things are equal. If you like both a female and male and feel you'd get quality care with either, you're supposed to choose the female.
This is the case with any professional (dentists and hair dressers as well).
Most people can find a female hair dresser they're comfortable with.

Being gay is not a consideration in halacha. A male is a male period.
