Does it cost money for an employer to use direct deposit? The company I work for is struggling financially and they also recently stopped direct deposit. I'm curious if it's a way to cut costs

Very possibly. My first job didn't offer me direct deposit because it cost them too much.

It could mean a few things
1- they no longer want to use a third party because they want to avoid the extra cost
2- they’re trying to avoid payroll taxes for the time being
3- they don’t have money in the account when it’s supposed to pull for payroll so they wait
