My 6 year old daughter was just put on concerta 18. I’m losing my mind. We live in a small apartment so everyone is basically up with her. Tonight I I sent her to my sister so the others can fall asleep. I feel like I’m losing my relationship with my daughter. It’s been a week I don’t see any significant difference that tells me to keep doing it. Tonight for the 3/4 time she completely lost all control. She was really hurting me. Please advise. I’m calling my ped tomorrow to update him. But anyone it there that has experience that can advise me would be appreciated. Thank you

Not every med works for every child. Ask your ped when do you give up on this one and try something else

I have two kids on concerta you should see a difference within two days. If you're not seeing any improvement at all, it's not the right medication. Having said that, the rebound effects are very very tough for the first 3 weeks or so. There will be about an hour in the afternoon when they literally are climbing the walls. You need to plan for that beforehand but it doesn't last, they get used to the medication.
About the sleeping, start giving the concerta earlier in the morning, I wake them up at 6, give it and then they go back to sleep until it starts working. Half an hour before bedtime give 1mg of melatonin and then again at bedtime. Once you get into a good routine, she'll need less because the body adjusts.
For whoever asked why not ritalin, ritalin is 4 hours, concerta is the same drug as ritalin but it lasts 12 hours.

It doesn’t sound like a good medication for her. Try something else, maybe a lower dose. Tell the doctor what you are seeing.

They have long lasting Ritalin pills that are slow release that last 10 hours. Sometimes it’s also better to give 2 four hour pills instead of one 8-12 hour pill.
