How much does a sefer torah cost? I see Oorah values one at $35k (it’s one of their prizes) but a charidy campaign I see raising money for one is trying to raise $100k.

Wondering what the actual cost is?

Depends on if you buy it or write it. Also depends on the sofer.

The better, more experienced sofrim are charging a lot more than $30K

We gave in one. The sefer was 90k the day of 50 k

New ones have not been 30k for a very long time. My parents gave one about 12 years ago and that was the price then....

Prices of sefer torah vary..it depends who the sofer is and the size and the nicer ksav the more expensive it will be

Not that poster but my family spent around the same on their event. It was for a lot of people, and was a very nice event, its not that crazy a number to reach

50K is the average these days. You can always spend more and a lot of people refurbish older torahs and donate them. My husband did this as a job many years ago.

I know first hand that it’s 60-80k. Besides the writing of it, there’s also the Atzei Chayim, the gartel, a mantel, a special mantel for yomim noraim, a keser, the hachnasas Sefer Torah procession and Seuda, transportation of the Torah from where it’s written (ie eretz yisrael) to where it’s being housed (possibly America so either you ship it or send it with someone or go there and bring it back).
