I need easy and basic instructions for cooking please! Just plain no veggies or anything

Is onion ok? I like sauteing onion, adding the couscous and letting it toast a bit before adding water from urn and salt to taste. I follow directions on package for water to couscous ratio. I think it cooks after boiling for about 8 minutes? Should say on the package...
