I came from Morristown "Ir HaKodesh"...yes, people actually say that. It's a half joke/half serious, and stems from the affection towards the yeshiva/kollel, etc. community there.

It is a special place.

I've never heard of Crown Heights referred to as ir ha'kodesh or Jerusalem, that I can recall.

That doesn't mean that noone ever refers to it as that. I've never heard of some of the cities that Ruchel posted in her original post, but I'm sure it exists.

the only other place I heard with the name "ihr hakodesh" is Lakewood. I assumed it was a known joke!!

no, but some of my closest friends are from there and I spent a lot of time there when I was younger. havent been there in so long, but im sure its still great! DH and I are due for a shabbat over there.. I have so many memories from "motown"!
