My son just learned this song... Twisted Evil And I used to know the kosher version that starts like this: Ring around the Torah a pocket full of mitzvos...

Does anyone know the rest?

Ring around the Torah, a pocket full of Mitzvos - with Mitzvos, with Mitzvos we won't fall down!

There may be other versions of this as well.

I remembered another version that I like better

Ring around the Torah, a pocketful of Mitzvos, Learn them, Keep them, and you won't fall down (or maybe... and they won't let you down - whichever way you like Smile )

that's so funny you asked that! My kids sing that all the time and I can never figure out what they are singing and when I ask they get all shy. Thanks.

Now, what are the words to the tzedaka song?
Tzedaka tzedaka tzedaka, that is what we give
to help the poor people, to help .....live? what is the rest of that one?

Tzedakah, tzedakah, tzedakah, that is what we give,
to poor people, to help them live,
so they'll have food and clothes,
so they'll have food and clothes,
give a penny a day,
cuz that's the Torah way.

this is so cool! Thank-you. I finally know what my kids are singing.

I don't know all the words to happy birthday but I think it's still a different version from what you have given me. I know it goes:

Happy birthday to you
celebrate as a jew .....

that's all I know.

Or:

Tzedakah, tzedakah, tzedakah, that is what we give,
to poor people, to help them live,
so they'll have food and clothes,
so they'll have food and clothes,
give a penny a day,
before you start your day

(same tune as the traditional "happy birthday to you")

happy birthday to you
its a special day for a jew
celebrate your birthday,
in a chassidishe way.

learn a little torah,
give extra tzedaka,
and on to another mitzva,
and HaShem will bless (or you can say bentch) you.

I never thought one would have to kosher up happy birthday and ring around the rosie. I see nothing unkosher about them to begin with.

then there is the continuation to the ring around the torah...

"tatties are in a shul, davening, learning, with mitzvos with mitzvos we all jum p up"

or "kinderlach are in playgroup, playing, sharing, with mitzvos ... we all jump up!"

mommy3.5 - I don't see them as unkosher, but I think the jewish versions are cute songs too!

it's like when kids sing "happy b-day 2 u, u live in a zoo..."

truth is that the ring around a rosie is about the black plague so maybe it is better to stick with the "kosher" version!!!!

did you ever hear the tape "yankee strudel?" it's all the kiddie songs/nursery rhymes with jewish words - but really connected well! like 3 blind mice = about davening 3x a day

Ring Around the Rosie is not about the black plague. Check out snopes.com.

I think the words are "add on another mitzvah" - referring to making a good hachlata, for a "hosafa" in torah and/or Mitzvos. ( see Minhagei Yom Holedes - it's one of the minhagim, and it's been posted on imamother by Motek somewhere. Maybe someone will find the link Smile )
