My kids are getting so hard to feed on Shabbos. All they like is PB&J, pasta, and the like. They no longer even eat shnitzel! Won't eat meatballs, any kind of chicken, lamb, roast - nothing that is usually served on Shabbos. I need ideas that can hold up until dinner. It's come down to my kids eating challah and chummus for dinner, deli roll for lunch, and hard-boiled eggs and PB&J for seudat shlishit. Tonight we're going to try teriyaki salmon, see how they do. I'm not too hopeful ... but still I try. Smile

What do your preschoolers eat???

Don't give up - just keep serving a wide variety of foods and eventually your kids will try it, and hopefully like it. All young kids go through periods of only eating one or two foods - but they should grow out of it. Also young kids have much smaller appetites than adults - if they eat challa and chumous (my son used to live on that but he is growing out of it) first than they will not be hungry for anything else.

Sounds like mine. Friday, before Shabbos they have soup - some withe chicken, some without. At the meal - challah, pasta salad. Shabbos day: 1 has fish, 1 has pasta salad & chummus, all 3 like cholent. Seuda shlishit - hard boiled eggs, fried sliced gefilte fish, lebens, yogurts, Pb & J sandwiches.

we have a minimum bite rule. Everyone has to at least try the food on their plates. Amazingly enough once they taste it, they usually like it. And will eat another bite or two the next time I serve it.

We also have a no dessert unless you eat rule---Its a great motivator!

When my kids went through their picky phases I made them foods they liked for shabbos. Franks in blankets with corn on the cob for Friday night, sometimes hamburgers and french fries with parve milkshake and ceaser salad. I let them come to the store with me Thursday to choose ingredients for salads and dips for the day meal.

I just started doing this with my 3 yr old b/c I was tired of him not eating half the food I make for supper. And guess what!! It works! Now he likes meat and salmon and chicken...phew what a relief. He doesn't want to miss his dessert Wink
