My daughter's gastroenterologist put her on a diet that restricts her from eating potatoes, any refined grains (white flour, white rice) cheese and sugar including honey. We have leniency with the sugar and cheese but she immediately has symptoms with any of the other foods. I wish I had a name for this diet so I could just search for recipes the way you would for "gluten free" or similar. Anyone heard of something like this?

I am not a dieter but it sounds like Paleo.
That's about lots of protein and leaves, but no starches.
It seems to be about eating when you were hunting and gathering, but you didn't plant agriculture.
It might just be a place to start.
She is perhaps allowed eggs, chicken, fish, beef and salads? With bland oil and vinegar? Perhaps she is allowed yogurt? That is easier to digest than other dairy products.
How would celery sticks with yogurt, or celery sticks with no-sugar organic peanut butter be? That is, if she can eat nuts. If she can, they have a lot of nutrients.
Avocado might be an idea. It has oil and vitamins, and no sugar that I know of.

OP here. She can have starch but they must be whole grain. She can have corn too. I've tried searching for recipes by typing in "'healthy" or "whole wheat" but very few are purely whole wheat or whole grain. Many recipes are partially whole wheat and partially white flour. Also, potatoes and sweet potatoes aren't considered unhealthy so using the term healthy in a search still leaves me with a lot of narrowing down to do.

Try looking for the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (sounds like this is a modified, less restricted version of it) and the South Beach Diet, which is low carb. Potatoes are not considered "healthy" on low carb diets due to its high glycemic index. You can probably adapt most low carb diet recipes for your needs.

the scd allows honey but absolutely no whole grains. I wouldn't look for that. ask your doctor, op. maybe you can get some recipes.
I would suggest you check for non-dairy whole grain recipes. is there any sweetener you can use without restriction? you may just have to get used to substituting ingredients. meanwhile, it doesn't sound like her diet is overly restrictive. take out some cookbooks from the library and see what you can find.

Dukan diet recipes would probably work as well.
