Warning: Poison in Kosher Snack
Israeli supermarkets have recently been selling packages of rice crackers called HOT-KID. The rice crackers were produced in China for the M. Ron Food International company, located in the Kadima Industrial Park. Each package of rice crackers, which bear the OK hechsher, contains smaller packets of sugar-coated rice crackers. In addition to this, each package contains a little bag of what looks like white sugar with writing in Chinese and English. According to what is written on it, this white powder is calcium hydroxite, an extremely poisonous dessicant.
The Chinese and English writing on this small packet explains that its contents are not to be eaten and should be kept away from children. If it enters the eyes, medical attention is necessary.
It is not certain whether the hechsher is genuine. However, it is clear that putting such an item inside a children's snack is extremely dangerous and totally unacceptable. Here, the situation is even worse because the warning is not written in Hebrew even though the product is sold in Israel. Parents should be warned.

I haven't heard of that make before, but what are they doing putting it in any snack or near any kind of food. I know they put dessicants with some medicines but those don't go out to the public unless it's inside the cap and can't be got to. It is a health hazard and I someone should tell the health authorities.

The snacks with the false hechsher
As we previously reported, packets of a children's snack with an OK hechsher, produced by Ron Food International, contained small sachets of a poisonous dessicant. After speaking to OK representatives in Israel (where the snack was marketed), we have since discovered that the hechsher on this product is a forgery. In fact, the "National Kashrus Department" has announced that everything that this company produces is manufactured without any official kashrus supervision. Its products include rice snacks, crackers and cookies for babies

I recently baught Kosher Nori and in the packet was one of those poison things which they use to keep it fresh. It must be a chinese thing to put it in food So I suggest anytime you buy something Chinese, keep a lookout for it.

here is another snack with a false hechsher
Only ten days ago, we reported that a children's snack containing a poisonous substance carried a falsified OK hechsher. The National Kashrus Department has now issued another warning about a product bearing a fake hechsher. Items made by the Polish "Wawel" company bear a false OK hechsher, even though they have never been produced under any kashrus supervision. The company's products have recently been imported to Israel by Benny Fawzi Sumsum, Ltd, which is located in Nazareth.
The recent growth in the number of fake OK hechsherim may be due to the popularity of products with that hechsher. Many manufacturers are tempted by the growing market for OK goods and are puttng fake seals on the wrappers of their products
