Madame Defarge was the evil old biddy who knitted while Mme La Guillotine was chopping off heads during the French Revolution....Charles Dickens' "A Tale of Two Cities".

A good SN for some people...hmmmmmmm! Wink [Not I, of course! LOL ]

Actually, legend has it that it was Marie Antoinette who said the cake line when the peasants were rioting that there was no bread. I don't think she actually said it, though...poor woman probably said something close to it & it was re-arranged. Like everything else, right? We're rarely quoted accurately!

Literature/history lessons are over for today. Pop quiz on Tuesday Tongue Out

They asked for bread and she said "qu'on leur donne de la brioche", roughly translated "let them be given brioche", and people took it as not understanding they were talking in general, wanting some food.

I agree, we had too much between shabbatot & yomim tovim. Enough with yontef, as one of my friends put in his facebook status LOL (I was surprised because he loves everything frum, but at least he's honest...).

In the original French the alleged quote reads, "Qu'ils mangent de la brioche," which means, literally, "Let them eat rich, expensive, funny-shaped, yellow, eggy buns."

well, I thought I didn't need to cook much, since we overcooked for YT (as usual), but then I realized that I still needed fish as well as fresh salads.

I still have plenty of leftover fleishiks though, even though Shabbos is already over! Guess what I'll be serving for the next few days...

I did it! I made chicken, cholent and lentil soup and that't it! My kids cleaned and vacuumed and washed floors. My husband cleared the shabbos tables. This month has been incredibly exhausting. I love having guests but the prep and clean up is killing me. This shabbos I was O-F-F!
