Putting in a new kitchen. Can anyone educate me about the benefit or drawbacks of each?
Thanks

stained wood is very pretty and hopefully wont chip the way painted wood does.
I have laminate because it's so practical. I love it and it's in great condition going on four years. I do think, though that my white laminate is slowly changing colors. my kitchen is very sunny and I think it changed the color of my cabinets from stark white to yellowish.

Are they comparable price wise?

TSS cabinets (thermally structured surface), which is what I think you mean by laminate, is a very durable surface, more durable than stained wood. It does not have the richness of color that real wood has, but looks great in modern-style kitchens. Both are more durable than painted wood. For the most part, TSS cabinets are only available with slab doors.

There are a lot of variables that affect price, but on average, TSS cabinets will be less expensive than stained wood.
