We Bh' have been making a Seder for many years. Always peeled. Never tried it without peeling. how many apples are u using.? We use about 10-20 depending on our crowd and it's not so time consuming.

We use 1 apple for 5 people to eat at 2 sedarim. Do you guys serve portions? Why would you need 20 apples?

We peel everything, and don’t eat the charoses, so yes and it’s only one apple.

Honestly it depends on how much time I have or how lazy I want to be. Some years yes, some years no. If the apples I have are the kind with a waxy or thick peel, yes. If I have pink lady or honey crisp, no.

Charoset is very flexible for a tradional Pesach food. Some recipes are based on dates, not apples.

The ingredients of charoset are immaterial. Depending on where one lives, it can contain dried dates, prunes, bananas, avocado...what matters is that it has a muddy color and thick, gloppy texture to resemble mortar that is used to hold bricks together. No, it does not have to contain apples, though apples and walnuts are a traditional Eastern European combo. Mostly because these ingredients were readily available there, as opposed to, say, dates, which would be readily available in the Middle East.

I don't peel and I think it comes out just fine. That said, I basically never peel apples for anything (apple sauce, apple cake, apple pie or crumble).

I grew up in a family of 2 Sedarim. Now we have 1. I grew up in a home where we ate charoset with Everything! Meat, the next day, the day after the 2nd YT.
I do that now also. I usually put in 1 apple per person, and we eat it for a few days.

Of course it does not need to have apples.
My mother started making this delicious marocan charoset a few years ago. We are ashkenazi. We love it. There are no apples in it.
