Hmm. Confused I was told that according to basic Halacha, there's no problem with using the same pots for both fish and meat (not together, obviously); however, if your parents were careful about not using the same pot, you should be careful as well.

Yes, there is a minhag to be strict, and usually people keep their parents' minhag.
Star k explains it, that anoot just needs to be clean to cook fish, but thay there is a very old custom (ie,. minhag) to be strict (ie, chumra).

No, I linked to the article I meant to. The article you shared goes into more detail, but the article I linked also talks about fish and meat and the minhag of using separate pots.

As long as the oven didn't get any spills from the chicken, it's fine.

We make sure the oven cooled down sufficiently - I turn off the oven and wait until I can stick my hand in and touch the walls of the oven and the grates without it hurting - could be warm but not burning - before turning the oven on again. This is between roasting uncovered fish and the next dish... (so you know for next time)

On yontif when I use my oven for fish and then can't turn it off I wait a while before putting in the next item

ETA so I would do the same in reverse if cooking fleishigs first...
