Looking for recommendations for for very bright and curious ds9 who gets a very meager secular education in school. Things he could do on his own when he gets home. He loves history, geography, science. Looking for reccs for games, books, kits, apps. Things on American history, the presidents, the 50 states, animals, the human body, multiplication facts, STEM.

There are many online subscription boxes.. We've tried kiwi crate and Mel Science. There are so many out there it can be overwhelming to look through! In every subject, so it might be simplest to look for specific topics he's interested in (space, coding, animals etc)

Good luck keeping him busy Very Happy

Oh! And the circle magazine has a lot of these kind of info to read

How is his reading? My boys love the DK encyclopedias. Some of them need to be censored so go through them before you give them to your boys.
Brain puzzles from highlights, and sticker puzzles are also great.

We get the circle already, looking for more.

Yes, it's overwhelming what's out there. That's why I was looking for specific recommendations. A series that's tried and true and clean, a certain product, a toy, maybe one of those interactive globes if they're worth it

If you have time to post on imamother you have time to censor books. It doesn’t take long. But if you really don’t want to, only get him those on math and vehicles. Science and history have to be censored. Or get him the limited selection available from Frum publishers at 3 times the price.

Try Kahn Academy or IXL for math. There are videos with self taught lessons. Kahn academy is free.

Menucha publishers has tons of non fiction books, on subjects like animals ect

Easy word searches are great - there are two on Amazon meant for kids age 6

Any math workbook would be good

Rush hour is a great game that takes thinking skills

GeoSafari has amazing stuff. They have an interactive globe for geography. They have all sorts of kits. They used to have (maybe still do) a device which comes with cards on different topics - science, geography, history, etc, as a really fun trivia game. Look up there stuff on amazon or elsewhere.

CodeMonkey is great for learning computer programming, my 10 year old loves it.

Khan Academy is also great.

You can get a Flashmaster for math, not very exciting, but good practice.

Magic School bus books (they have long picture books and short chapter books) and the tv shows are great for science (both the original magic school bus and the magic school bus rides again.

My 10 year old likes the Time Warp Trio books, lots of history, though they have classic boy humor, you may want to check one yourself.

The Magic Treehouse Books are clean and have lots of history, but he may be above that reading level. Still, they are really fun.

You can look on youtube for old PBS shows, they are appropriate:
- square one (math)
- mathnet (math)
- 321 contact (math or science, I don't remember)
- where in the world is carmen sandiego (kids gameshow on geography).

There is also the Odd Squad tv show, a good show, about math.

Get him a chemistry set!

The game Trivial Pursuit.
