Anyone have this before? My challah came out of the oven and the tops of some of them are cracked - like at the sides by the braid it's pulling up. I'm not sure if I'm describing it well. Could this mean they rose for too long? I let the dough rise for extra since I didn't think it was filling the bowl enough, and then they rose again in the pans.
What would that be from?

I think that happens if you don't leave it to rise for long enough after braiding, before putting them in the oven. I try and leave mine at least 30-45 mins.

The inside continued to rise after the outside sets.
I find it is more likely to happen when my oven is a little too hot, it sets the outside faster.
