Having a birthday party for 8 and 9 year olds and painting tambourines. What type of paint and brushes should we use?

I'm guessing fabric paint/ paint pens.
I don't know if it's a good idea for such young children since they are very staining and do have some fumes.

We've done regular cheap acrylic paint (the $1 bottles from Walmart) with foam brushes for the base.
Then puff paint and sequins, fake flowers, gems, etc. on top.

If you want it shiny. I think I made mine matte. They hold up well for 10 years or so.
