If financially you could swing it, (not discussing kolel/not kollel, husband earning a lot/a little just in theory) would you stay at home until your kids were at least 3?

is sending a 3 year old to a playgroup for 2 hours a day disqualify a person from being a SAHM?

No, if you're at home and the child is over 3, you're doing it for them not for you.

I don't love being a SAHM but
Don't think it's good for babies to go to babysitters.
I think a few hours of playgroup is good for most
2 y.o.,but not 6+ hours.

I would not I need it for my emotional health but I would choose to get maternity leave for at least 9 months to a year and still get my job back.

I wish I could be a sahm, but my husband won't even hear of it. He comes from a home where sahm are looked down on and seen as lazy. I love my dh, but I wish I had known before we got married.

Why till 3?
I think sending a toddler out at 2 is healthy for them. They get to socialize and detach from Mommy for a bit.
My child I kept home till 3 is my most anxious when sending her off to school.
Newborns and babies belong home with their mothers if possible.

Go live in the UK. Seriously, the US is the worst country in the world for working mothers.

I dont think for me that completely quitting my job is a good thing but I would love to find the sweet spot of part time hours that work best for me.

We've always been able to swing it financially, and I've always chosen to work full time. My kids have all gone to the local JCC daycare and done great there.

Why is part time not an option? If I had the choice, I would work part time for my mental health and send my kids out or have a babysitter for 2-3 hours/day

Absolutely. But I’d want to work part time once they get school age. I’ve done the SAHM life with schooling/part time work sprinkled in.

Absolutely not. I was a SAHM for 3 years when my oldest 2 were little and daycare would've cost more than I'd earn. It was the worst few years of my life.
I always say, even if I win the lottery I would still work. I need to feel like my talents and skills aren't wasted.

I would work 3 hours a day, 3 days a week. And send my baby to her imaginary doting grandmother. A girl can dream...

This is my answer but till 2. I would love to not have to consider finances and take off two years after a baby.
